December 1

Infant Holy, Infant Lowly

Performed by Celeste Fraser (mezzo soprano), Stefan Reed (tenor), and Emily Yoder (soprano)

Words: Traditional Polish carol, translated by Edith M. Reed
Music: Traditional Polish carol, arranged by David Willcocks

Making their Hark! debuts today are Emily Yoder, Stefan Reed, and Celeste Fraser with this lovely recording of Infant Holy, Infant Lowly. They sang an arrangement of this traditional Polish carol from 100 Carols for Choirs. Emily says, "I particularly love that the text includes words we don't get to use all the time, 'Nowells' and 'morrow'. What fun!"

Lyrics

Infant holy,
Infant lowly,
For His bed a cattle stall;
Oxen lowing,
Little knowing
Christ the Babe is Lord of all.
Swift are winging
Angels singing,
Nowells ringing,
Tidings bringing,
Christ the Babe is Lord of all.

Flocks were sleeping,
Shepherds keeping
Vigil till the morning new;
Saw the glory,
Heard the story,
Tidings of a Gospel true.
Thus rejoicing,
Free from sorrow,
Praises voicing,
Greet the morrow,
Christ the Babe was born for you!
