"Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming" is a beautiful Christmas hymn. I've played this very simply on the banjo.

Lo, how a rose e'er blooming
From tender stem hath sprung,
From Jesse's lineage coming,
By faithful prophets sung.
It came, a floweret bright,
Amid the cold of winter,
When half spent was the night.
Isaiah 'twas foretold it,
The rose I have in mind,
With Mary we behold it,
The virgin mother kind.
To show God's love aright
She bore for us a Savior,
When half spent was the night.

Aus einer Wurzel zart,
Wie uns die Alten sungen,
Von Jesse kam die Art,
Und hat ein Blümlein bracht
Mitten im kalten Winter
Wohl zu der halben Nacht.
Das Röslein, das ich meine,
Davon Jesaias sagt,
Ist Maria die Reine uns
