Hark! The Herald Banjo Rings
Christmas 2010
November 30
Today's song is known as both "Flemish Carol" and "A little child on the earth has been born." I found it in the Oxford Book of Carols and quite enjoyed the tune. Like last year, I am trying to include Christmas songs from many countries, and this tune is the first from Belgium to be included in Hark! I played this tune in G# on my banjo and then added some accompaniment to fill out the sound.

Flemish Carol
Performed by Greg Barlow on banjo
Words: Trans. R.C. Trevelyan
Music: Old Flemish
A little child on the earth has been born,
A little child on the earth has been born;
He came to the earth for the sake of us all,
He came to the earth for the sake of us all!
He came to earth but no home did he find,
He came to earth but no home did he find,
He came to earth and its cross did he bear,
He came to earth and its cross did he bear.
He came to earth for the sake of us all,
He came to earth for the sake of us all
And wishes us all a happy New Year,
And wishes us all a happy New Year.
